About AHEC KIDS?

AHEC KIDS is an outreach effort of Greensboro AHEC through the North Carolina Health Careers, Minority Workforce Development program.  Since its inception, the North Carolina AHEC Program has been challenged by the need to help recruit more minorities into health care fields. This program is designed to expose youth, especially minority youth, to health careers in order to address the shortage that exists. Since 1993, Greensboro AHEC has received funding through a model state-supported AHEC program grant to expand these efforts, and in 1996, received funding to support a full-time Director to supervise the efforts of HC/MWD.

GOALS:

  • Increase the awareness of minority youth in health career opportunities.
  • Improve the recruitment and retention of under represented students into health careers.
  • Engage all AHEC faculty/staff in the mission of the Health Career & Minority Workforce
Development program, and enhance their cultural competency and sensitivity.
  • Enhance appreciation among education and civic leaders and community health providers of the
        importance of health career opportunities.
  • Maximize the impact of community-based efforts through strong collaboration.
  • Increase awareness among educators, parents and community organizations of Greensboro AHEC
as a resource for health careers information.
